Entrepreneur / Owner, 2004-2018

Wild Iris Books was part of the feminist bookstore network that encompassed both the United States and Canada and was one of only 12 remaining feminist bookstores at its closing in December 2017. As an iconic community center, Wild Iris supplied space for a diverse community to share their voice through literature, poetry, art, music, spoken word, and community engagement.

  • Managed all aspects of the business, including maintaining corporate records, managing employees and volunteers; marketing and social networking; deploying and maintaining an online retail store.
  • Developed community outreach initiatives focused on creating a diverse and inclusive community including LGBTQ+ individuals and people of color.
  • Developed an internship program designed to help individuals learn about small business management and community activism.
  • Coordinated the establishment of Friends of Wild Iris (FoWI) as a 501(c)3 sister organization. Established the Board of Directors, drafted Bylaws, and Articles of Incorporation, filed incorporation paperwork, and secured 501(c)3 status.
